Reporter Tim Hay interviewed Jim Madden for an article on the closing of Carrick Capital Partners’ debut fund. “Carrick Capital Partners, a newly launched growth-equity firm started up by private-equity veterans with a track record of working together, has closed its inaugural fund at $180 million, which is $30 million more than the fund’s original target, VentureWire has learned.

Jim Madden and Marc McMorris, the firm’s founding partners, spent months holding meetings with potential investors, most of whom seemed to be on the fence and not ready to make a firm commitment, Mr. Madden said. But over the summer, all within the space of a week or two, the tepid responses suddenly heated up, leading to a “waterfall” of commitments from endowments, funds of funds and large family offices, he said, and convincing founders to close the fund higher than expected…”
